Emily Shearer, Senior Editor

Emily Shearer was born in North Carolina, moved to southern France in 1991, and has been in Houston for over five years.   As a stay-at-home mother of three, she strives to live up to her motto:  “making works of art at home and the home a work of heart.”  Her personal culture is a unique tapestry woven with many threads:  strong ties to family, her southern heritage, the French language and 20th century art, and Celtic folklore, music and dance. At 37, she believes she has come back from Oz with a strong sense of self.  In her own words, she proclaims to be ‘damaged yet stronger, funny and patient and spread just a little too thin.  On a good day, a little bit messy, a little bit angry and running a little behind. . .’ In the summer of 2008, she published her first cookbook, Kitchen Mission, a collection of recipes, anecdotes, and family photos.  New to the world of Facebook, blogging and Twitter, she finds herself at her best with a cup of coffee in one hand and a pen in the other.   She wants to be a writer when she grows up.  Right now she believes she can save the world, one batch of cookies at a time. Emily joined the OPMOM team as a Senior Editor that launched Adventures in Paris!
